She moves in silence ~ moon shot

Christine December 12th, 2008

We only get a chance for a frame like this once a year it seems.  Last year it was the Hunter’s Moon. This photo was taken last evening around 4:45 pm.  The sun was already down and I glanced out the window, as I so often do (I don’t get much done because I’m always looking at what the mountains are doing towards sunset).  Low and behold!  Matthew grabbed some shots off our front porch with the zoom lens. He did not use the tripod, he just did this hand-held.  He felt lucky, I guess.

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies,
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meets in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellow’d to that tender light        Lord Byron
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.

Summer’s Rest (OSI)

Christine July 20th, 2008

Upon a star we depend
calling silently on its worn path
following her beacon
on the edge of a million other stars
never named by our lonely world.

This galactic road, rutted in eons,
dotted with eternity,
is carefully marked by a light
too bright to perceive -

only thousands of us
far away,
in the cosmic somewhere else
will see it as a sunset

giving birth to the eve of a summer’s day
and therein will we rest.

Ruby Tuesday reality check

Christine June 10th, 2008

This photo we took last August one evening while the State of MT burned up with forest fires. Oddly enough, I would really rather have the snow and rain. Go to Work of the Poet for more red images. Thanks Mary, for the idea and chance to share in the fun of seeing red.

This Sky on Fire photo I am sharing mostly as a reminder of what is truly important. Call it my June reality check – just when I am longing to be out digging in the garden, today I wake up to snow. It is snowing right now as I type this but the snow is not sticking. It’s very cold and it has been raining for a week; I am having to start all my veggies inside hopefully to set out later when the sun returns.

Update: as of around 11:30 the snow is sticking!

Pick it up!
