Yesterday around 10:47 MT, occurred the winter solstice.  Happy light and shadow to you all and blessings of the season.  And many thanks to Haiku Bones for another interesting prompt.

Frozen tears ~ Haiku Bones

Christine December 15th, 2009

waning light

precious winter light
submits to dark’s long shadows
retreats in inches
~~~~~
cast aside
tattered clouds torn
like old paper
Each day brings us closer to the winter Solstice which, difficult as it is to realize, marks a pivotal moment of seasonal time – the beginning of winter. Yet, with winter comes the return of more daylight for us in N. America.  For me, a kind of birth occurs in the changing season.  We cannot ignore death but the light will not be denied.  The end of the retreat is near and the return of the light approaches.
Thanks to Nancy Bea for the prompt of Wistful at Haiku Bones.
A Winter’s Day Haiku (OSI)
Christine December 21st, 2008
deep winter’s first day
frozen berries wear a shawl
hung for a bird’s snack
snow is shape shifting
ice whispers her broken vow
the wind changed its mind
Christ child’s human heart
brings us gentle Solstice hope
longing for the light
Read other Winter’s Day tales at One Single Impression. Thank you to Geraldine for the prompt idea.
