Need a good flik?

Christine January 22nd, 2007

Our relatives and friends often ask my opinion about which movies to rent. (We get Netflix.) They seem to like my selections so I will suggest a few movies now and then. Most of these are of the independent variety; French, Italian, Dutch, and always the coy English film.

The Legend of 1900 (released in 1998) is from the Italian director of Cinema Paradiso, which I also recommend. This film is about a very gifted jazz pianist who was born aboard a cruise ship and never leaves the vessel. It is what I would label an art film. I adored the scene with the rolling grand piano in the ballroom. It is around 160 minutes long so you will need a companion and a good bowl of popcorn.
