A lonely mountain stairway

Mountain impressionistSomeone wrote me today from West Virginia via our Weather page about this photo.  Her impression being the image acquired the semblance of a stairway to heaven.  I understand her visual reference, (I doubt she intended the musical one) because the snow chute does mimic steps somewhat, but it looks to be rather a lonely and perhaps treacherous stairway, more so as the afternoon veiled the summit in clouds.  The dim light enhanced the snow chute; it isn’t that visible sometimes while it gets filled up with well — snow. We often think the peaks feel Tolkienesque at times, even before the Trilogy movies were filmed.  Click to enlarge the lonely mountain.
