Hot Chocolate Recipe

Christine December 23rd, 2009

  • 6 cups of whole milk
  • 8 ounces of chocolate
  • 4 teaspoons of sugar (powdered if possible)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt

1 Finely chop the chocolate into small pieces. The pieces have to be able to dissolve easily in the liquid.

2 Place the milk into a small, thick-bottomed pot on low heat and bring to a low simmer. Whisk once in a while to ensure that the milk doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.

3 Add the vanilla,  sugar, salt, and chocolate and whisk vigorously until the chocolate has melted.  If using liquors add them now to the hot chocolate.

4 Heat for another 3 minutes stirring frequently.

Add a dollop of whipped cream on top.

Serve with Italian Biscotti.  The recipe for Biscotti I posted last year is here.

Serves 4-5.

I tried the biscotti recipe last year and it turned out really well! Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas.

Yes please Christine. I’ll place my order for one of those right now! Maybe with a wee tot of brandy in there too. Sounds scrumtious! Happy Christmas to you and your family! (-:

Powdered sugar, something new. Sounds good, and I will use the biscotti recipe tomorrow. I am doing lasagna for my bunch, and that will go well with the ice cream.

that sounds delicious, but as my husband frequently says “it reeks of effort” — I think I’ll stick with my Land O’Lakes Supreme Cocoa packets!

I like to think of you and yours sitting around playing your ukeleles and sipping hot chocolate. Sounds like a wonderful time.

Looking forward to trying this one out, Christine! We had some hot chocolate the neighbors made and sorry to say… as much as I appreciated the effort… uh…

Well, let’s just say… I want me some Christine Chocolate yumminess!

All the best to you and lots of warm wishes this Christmas. Hope it is a good one!

For a little extra flavor, you can add just a pinch of cinnamon…and if you’re daring, a tad of chili powder! (That’s partly what makes Mexican Hot Chocoloate so good!)

    Thanks, Christine–

Beth, that IS a new twist on HC! Thanks; didn’t know about the chili powder.

Pick it up!
