Windy Haiku Board

Christine December 2nd, 2009

A couple weeks ago I bought a magnetic board for our fridge.  I started out by putting in dates of events or appointments we needed to remember and then all of a sudden I erased all that junk and wrote in a haiku.  Then, a few days later I wrote in another which kept to the theme that November was windy Haiku month.  Over Thanksgiving, the boys and their girlfriends were here, so the two young women added their own Tanka and Haiku to the collection of verse.  It was a lot of fun.  Ian recited a Haiku as well for the board but we wouldn’t let him write it up there because it had to do with windy alright, but nothing to do with the weather!  I didn’t want that one on the fridge!

This is fun. What a good idea to have something you can jot down haiku as it comes to you.

I keep thinking about your windy haikus. This came to mind…

    Cold air moans
    thick rain slaps windows
    ice piles on sills

That is a good idea. One of my friends has been trying to figure out a way to encourage her granddaughter to write more haiku, after reading some poems she did at school. I will mention the board to her.

What a lovely idea — much nicer than all those things you have to do!

I’m no good at writing haiku, but that looks like fun!

Enjoyed reading your fridge haiku…nice little poems, and especially in the original handwriting – I am a concrete poet at heart!!

Great idea, Christine. However, why deny Ian his space?? We all want to know what his was!

What a lovely inspirational post. Haiku on the frig! Going to reach for some leftovers, you are surrounded by impromptu art. Very good for creativity and digestions, I’m sure. :)

clever use for a common household item. i may try this out as i’ve not been writing poems much lately. maybe it will be good practice for me and get me jump started again. hope all is well.
