Know hope for new snow
Christine November 11th, 2009
This is the summit at Look Out Pass on the Montana / Idaho border early this morning at first light. There is about eighteen inches at the summit and it is still collecting. The ski area is not yet open of course, but as the long Thanksgiving weekend draws near and we continue to get wet weather – where there is snow, there is hope! Each time I go down in the basement I eye those darn skis stacked neatly against the wall and the boots, large and small, perfectly lined up with their partners. Last spring all the mittens and gloves were sorted and paired; so what else is there to do but wax and wait? Ah, ’tis the season of thumb-twiddling.
Oops, just checked their website and they are opening for a few days over the weekend. I guess we’ll bide our time just a wee bit longer… don’t want to scrape up that fresh wax job!

I am sooooo looking forward to the first “real” snow here. Could be on the way, judging by this pic in your area. I agree, time to break out the mitts. :<)
Hugs and stay warm, G
It’s beautiful, but I can live without it.
First snow is an exciting event. I can only imagine the exhileration the first ski run must cause. Keep those skis waxed. It won’t be long now.
Hi Christine, Hope you’re sending that storm our way! I took some pics earlier this week at the base of Breckenridge Ski Resort. How they are going to open tomorrow is beyond me! Our snow of a couple weeks ago is mostly melted – lottsa dried grasses showing… (Goody – my word is “canoe”…)
I’m in it for the beauty only at this point, so… but I hope you get your dream soon!
WOW! I can’t imagine getting snow so early over here. In fact, most winters we really don’t get any at all. How different our respective areas are! That’s what makes this blogging such fun. Hope you get to use those skies and shoes and mits soon! (-:
Winter sure does move in quickly and make herself at home. I hope you’ll have those skis on before long.
That is a lot of snow! sounds like you are excited for the skiing to begin. I looked at Big Mountain’s web cam the other day and saw tracks of folks who had skinned up and skied down. Some folks are not waiting for chair lifts!
I bet a photo of all those boots and skis and mittens lined up would be very colorful!
I only went skiing once in my life, but the memory is etched in my mind. I was both terrified and enthralled. I can’t wait to see some of your pics from the slopes!
Hello Christine~ i can’t imagine getting snow this early. though i don’t like the snow much i do look forward to at least one good snow this year so we can go sledding. here’s hoping you get to go skiing soon. hope all is well.
