Mission Sunset
Christine July 8th, 2007
Heat and low humidity give us this purple mountain tribute at dusk. The sun’s setting glow adds clarity to the highlights. There are not enough names attached to all the colors these mountains are dressed in throughout the day. The hues alter themselves from morning until twilight. Even under a full moon they emit a singular blue I don’t know what to call.
We have been getting some nice breezes at night but during the day, watch out, is it hot out there! On Friday we nearly hit 105, which I guess was an all time record. I’ve read this high pressure system is bringing the heat up from Arizona. I know this seems like peanuts to some of you who endure a much warmer climate. We are taking it all in stride. This will be a good summer to spend as much time on the water as we can. Still, the wool sweater I wore nearly constantly on the coast less than two weeks ago seems like a vague dream. (Did I truly write “wool sweater” and 105 degrees in the same post?) We are already planning our next paddle this coming week which probably will be McDonald Lake up in Glacier Park. So stay tuned for some kayaking chronicles.
