Bluebird Highway

I imagine all the bluebirds are migrating now but this is the Stern’s Hollow Road just below Roger’s Pass on the east side headed to Great Falls. This is also known as the Bluebird Highway. This photo was taken last weekend on one of our road trips to check in on our son (and his sweet heart) who both had the ‘flu. (They are in the meanwhile getting better but it was a nasty virus.) Just driving this road makes me feel good, even if I don’t see a bluebird. It was sixty degrees and we had the windows open even though the wind was blowing like a son of a gun. Ah, in the spring I’ll be looking for that unmistakable flash of blue feathers flitting from one fence post to another. For now the blue sky will have to do.

I can tell this is close to your heart.
Sounds like a wonderful place to visit. Are they mountain bluebirds? I have been thinking about them since you told me of the place.
Hope the kids are better. I am afraid we are going to see a lot of flu this year. I heard on the radio this morning that school children here will have to take at least six days off if they have swine flu. Lots of parents are going to be missing work, too. I don’t think anyone has had the shot here yet, how about there?
That does look like a bluebird sky, Christine. My twin grandchildren (6) just had the flu -they were very sick. Thankfully, they’re now on the mend. Hopefully, their little brother and their parents stay well… I hope you washed your hands a lot on your visit. Did you take chicken soup?
Beautiful picture! It almost looks like an oil painting. I can see this for sale in a gallery for sure. Hope your son and his sweetheart get better quickly. Take care!
Such a beautiful bluebird highway. The clouds show how the wind was blowing. This summer I so enjoyed seeing the western bluebirds flit around. Hope the kids are feeling better. And take care of yourselves too.
What a beautiful place. Love the name “Bluebird Highway”.
Glad your son and his sweetheart are getting better.
I love that big sky. Looks like there might be high winds aloft.
Hope your son & his partner’s flu bug has passed. Nasty. That vaccine can’t come any too soon.
Spent some time on you blog, thank you for the lovely poems and images. Our bluebirds seem to have vanished over the past week–they were watching the snow line creep down the ridges and bought a clue, I think. Even on the lower Big Hole prairie they seemed to have taken flight.
Such a beautiful highway. I can just see those little blue birds sitting on the fence line swooping out to capture a meal.
That photo, together with your words, makes a fine antidote for those of us who are recovering from the flu. Thank you!
Gorgeous ….
I just found you
I’ll be back
Love that open space. It does give one a sense of psychic “elbow room” — space to dream and wonder.
Terrific skywatch photo, absolutely stunning and beautiful landscapes!
